The Weekend began with a 60 mile road race, 10 laps and ten times up the short but steep frost ridge. There were a number of attacks throughout the race; however, the race always came back together.
With each passing lap a slow trickle of rides fell off the back. The two team riders Corey and I were only two of eleven riders to make the final selection going into the final lap. Half way through I attacked bringing two riders with me. As we hit the base of the clime we had 12 to 17 seconds on the chasing field, but the three of us had a simultaneous cramping at the first turn. The field blew by and the ever attentive Corey was able to finish of the race with a solid second place, plus, he took the sprint points on the fourth lap. The uphill 3 mile time trial was devastating. I finished in the back half, but Corey came in fourth, maintaining his 2nd in the overall. In the afternoon on Sunday two hours after the nasty time trial we had a 40 lap crit at the fishers course. After an early move by a nalgene rider I went in pursuit, but before I could make the junction I was caught by the main field. After the half way point a group of three went up the road, I decided to bridge up, and a lap and a half later we were caught. However, Corey took two primes that helped to eat away at the lead Theo had on him after the TT. At the start of the second to last lap a rider went off the front and two Mac Five riders and I went after him, Corey realized the urgency of the move and jumped on, but as one of the Mac Five riders pulled off Corey was blocked in a little. At the same time I attacked dropping the Mac Five riders, Corey, and passing the rider in front. I stayed away for the win, and Corey came in fourth after getting blocked in during the sprint. In the end Corey came home with second overall, plus, my win in the crit makes this a very successful weekend of racing.
